Sometimes serendipity plays an outsize role in whether we are awarded a job or not and in this case it took the confluence of both our sister firm being the architects of record on the former iteration of a Gowanus area Climbing Gym that was sold to new West Coast owners, combined with a trip to Seattle that allowed Principal Adam Kushner to see first hand their operations to make it work. But what really brought the deal home was the fortunate coincidence that Mr. Kushner is not only an avid lifelong rock climber but also happens to own the tallest private climbing wall in the world as well as having designed one of the very first public climbing gyms in New York City a good 25 years ago. This led to a great deal of trust and confidence that the clients thereby placed in our capable hands and as expected, but never relied upon, all is well that ended well. The facility is destined to become a new social hub to service the young hoards that have descended upon this newly rezoned section of Brooklyn and we are thrilled to be part of this cultural shift.
