Who doesn’t love to go out to eat? In this town, restauranting [yes it can be a gerand] approaches an almost Kabuki-esque level of scripted performance. With this in mind, for we live here too, the Bolero folks came to us with a vision for a unique Vietnamese experience on the bustling thoroughfare of Bedford Avenue seated in the heart of hip Williamsburg, and we were all in. Working closely with the interior design team from Le Whit, we planned and assembled an “erector set” system of aluminum framing and acrylic panels that served as wall finishes, soffits, and kitchen shelving. It was a minimalist gesture with a maximist footprint. Every surface of this 1000sf space was adorned with finishes as rich and bright as the food coming out of the kitchen. It also taught us that not every hospitality project has to be as intense, long-winded and dramatic as others and sometimes great design and execution can occur at a reasonable price point.
